I have a second laptop, however it's running windows 98. Clearly I don't want to go messing about with a working com port. I have toyed with re-naming the serial adapter COM3 in hardware setup, but it lists COM3 as in use (though I've no idea what it is). When I enter the DCX software I can only select com 3 - not what I want! Clearly it can never find the unit. Unfortunately this unit has nubered itself COM23 (I have bluetooth and infrared ports numbered before that). The first is an Acer reasonably modern one running windows xp, however it has no dedicated RS232 com port, so I'm using a usb serial adapter. I've downloaded the remote software and am trying to "talk" to the unit, but am having issues with 2 different laptops. Having trawled the net tying to convince myself to by one of these units I've finally bitten the bullet and it arrived from cpc today.
